Our sweet and sassy Goo Goo is 3 years old! She has grown into quite the funny little lady in these three years. She has a shining personality and always has a smile or laugh for anyone.
I know at times I should be worried that she does not have an ounce of stranger anxiety. She actually loves having a conversation with anyone willing to talk with her. She does not hesitate to know what she wants and will tell you immediately what she wants under no uncertain circumstances. Teague loves to nurture and love her, but she usually doesn't appreciate it. Then when you least expect it she offers you up a hug and kiss and to tell you that she loves you. Really she is babied by us all and knows it!
She speaks quite well and actually at her check up we learned she speaks at the level of a 4.5 year old. We also learned at her well child check up that she is in the 95-100th percentile for height and 90th for weight - so a little disproportionate, but better than being heavier than taller I guess! She's very healthy and growing like a typical child of mine!
Lola, we love you so much. Thank you for all your spunk - you bring so much light and joy (and unpredictability) to our lives. You are one in a ba-jillion!

First Day of School
Yesterday was Teague's first day of school at the Montessori school. We think it is going to be a great fit for him. We really contemplated whether kindergarten was best (he was just 5 in July, so kind of young yet) but yet he seemed so much more ready than just part time preschool (which is the only option in Melrose). The Montessori allows for him to work at his own pace and level, so if he is only ready for preschool level in some subjects he will work at that level, but if he is ready for 1st grade math then he works at that level. We've only had rave reviews of students that attend the Montessori. They've had higher test scores, etc. and are usually reading at higher levels, which being a good reader is the cornerstone for learning any subject. So we are optimistic that this is the best place for Teague. We have even contemplated keeping him there for an extra year instead of doing public kindergarten next year. We will see what the year brings!

One Last Summer Hoorah
I love summer. So much. I hate when Labor Day weekend comes. I realize for many this is a long weekend off of work, but for me it means the "long haul" is in front of us...the school year. It means closing up the pool, putting all the chairs, tables and other fun summer stuff away for the long dreaded winter.
Ok, enough of my sad, feeling sorry for myself. It was a fantastic summer, once again. We loved being together and getting to swim and having no schedule or structure. However, it's always good when we are back to the routine.
So, in celebrating summer here are some pictures from our last weekend of summer.

Skylar's Special Day
It's become the tradition to have a special day with Chase and Skylar before school starts. Two weeks ago the kids and I got the opportunity to spend some time alone with Skylar. It used to be that we would do our nails and shop, but this year she wanted to to a waterpark.
We decided to Bunker Hills Waterpark in Coon Rapids. It was a very cool place with a wide variety of water fun. They did have a wave pool, which I was nervous about with 3 kids and only myself, but luckily since the weather hasn't been as nice as one would typically hope for in late August, the pool was really cold so the kids weren't interested in it. Skylar and Teague took off to the big kid things and Lola and I stuck closer to the little kid things. I can really tell Lola is getting sick of being the "little kid" really quickly!
After that Sky wanted to try out the new Chuck E. Cheese in St. Cloud. The kids took a little nap on the way to St. Cloud and we enjoyed someincredible pizza. The kids had a good time, what more can you ask for?! Then we went home, played and had a nice bonfire.
All in all, a great and special day with a super special girl! I want to enjoy the time she wants to spend with us now, because she is a pre-teen and likely won't find it quite as "cool" to do things like that with us soon!

Stevens County Fair
The Stevens County Fair is truly a summer staple for us! Nothing like breaking out your newest school clothes (who cares if it is 90 degrees and you're wearing long sleeves and new jeans - you look COOL!), hanging on the midway with friends, going to Billy D and the Crystals...wait, nevermind, that was 15+ years ago!
Living away from Morris now for a number of years and attending a few other fairs has made me realize how much nicer the Stevens County fair is in comparison. They have a great variety of entertainment, food, and things to look at...including the people. Ahem, anyway, it's always fun to watch the joy in your kid's eyes, it doesn't take long before the rides are the main source of entertainment. The petting zoo and farm animals are always a hit, and of course "wristband night" where they can ride all the rides they want from 6-10pm. Whew! Teague has older cousins, so he's been introduced to the big rides waaaaaay early. Poor Lola is on her own with the "baby" rides. At least for this year!
On our way to Morris, pit stop in Starbuck because someone wouldn't leave their seatbelt on and opted for a timeout.
